Question:
Integrate physical, psychosocial and environmental components into comprehensive wound assessmentCritically appraise frameworks as tools for systematic assessment of a wound.
Details:

This week’s topic introduces you to the assessment process. This process should not be unfamiliar to you. However, in wound management, wound assessment is often separated out from the assessment of the whole person. Even more disappointing, the wound history and wound symptoms are often overlooked.
This week we want you to place the person firmly in the middle of the assessment process and explore the impact of a wound on an individual’s life.
Allocate 20 minutes to spend interviewing a person with a wound. Use only the interview questions outlined by Sussman and Bates-Jensen (p. 18 in section 1 of your course materials (in Course Materials folder) to elicit the wound history and symptoms. You can use anyone who has had a chronic, long-term wound (a friend, a neighbour, a patient).
In your group, discuss the process of interviewing a person using the interview questions by Sussman and Bates-Jensen:

Were the questions useful?
Did the questions provide enough insight into wound symptoms?
What did you find out about the wound and its impact on the person’s life?
